Lanzarote Cabildo’s new public transport plan

Lanzarote’s Cabildo yesterday gave initial approval to a viability study that will govern public transport on the island.

President Oswaldo Betancort said “We’re planning to spend €288 million over the next 15 years in order to radically change the island’s network of public transport.”

“We want to move towards a service that is more efficient, more sustainable and more inclusive, reducing the number of cars on the island” said Betancort.   Among the aims of the plan are to increase public transport use by two million passengers and reduce waiting times for buses.”

Another objective is to increase training and recruitment of drivers.

The Viability Study will be published by the Cabildo’s Transport Department, with a period of a month for citizens to lodge objections and suggestions.
