Four drowning victims on Lanzarote

Four drowning victims were recovered by Lanzarote emergency services yesterday in three separate incidents.

At 7.40 am, the body of a 34-year-old British tourist was reported at Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen yesterday. Sources claim that the incident may have been a suicide.

Later in the day, the body of an 81-year-old German man was discovered floating off the shore of Playa Grande, also in Puerto del Carmen. No further details of the incident have been given.

Meanwhile, a fishing boat six miles south-east of Lanzarote retrieved the bodies of two young Moroccan migrants from the sea at mid-morning. Both young men appeared to be of north African origin and about 20 years old. One was wearing a lifejacket, and another had been kept afloat by the inner tube of a tyre.

A maritime rescue vessel attended the area and took the bodies to Arrecife’s pier.
