Thursday has always been one of the busiest days at Lanzarote’s airport – it was traditionally the day when most flights from the UK arrived – but yesterday saw unprecedented crowds of passengers waiting on the tarmac outside the terminal building.
Joanne Brook has sent us this video of the queue, waiting to reach passport control on arrival at the airport. Queues and long delays have previously been reported since last June, but none that stretch out onto the tarmac.
The delay seems to have been caused, once again, by a lack of police officers available to check passports. Two weeks ago, it was reported that Spain’s interior ministry is “considering” the recruitment of a further 47 officers, the majority of whom will be assigned to airport duties.
