Casa de los Volcanes nominated for prestigious museum prize

The renovated Casa de los Volcanes museum at Jameos del Agua has been nominated for the prestigious EMYA European Museum Prize.

The award is given to musems that “transcend traditional narratives” and “inspire creativity”, and the Casa de los Volcanes will compete against 41 other museums from 18 European countries. Winners will be announced in May.

The Casa de los Volcanes was re-opened in March 2023 and addresses three main themes: the formation of the Atlantida tunnel and César Manrique’s transformation of the Jameo: the work of the Casa de los Volcanes monitoring volcanic activity on Lanzarote: and recent projects in which astronauts use Lanzarote to prepare for trips to Mars and the moon.

Entry to the Casa de los Volcanes is included in the fee to Jameos del Agua.
