Lanzarote Agents’ guide to Lanzarote’s Best Beaches

There are places in the world where a trip to the beach is not just an anecdotal experience but a truly transcendental one. One such place is Lanzarote, an island that has managed to preserve its natural beauty despite being a popular tourist destination. Its landscape is its greatest attraction—an ode to the four elements: earth, air, water, and fire.

Lanzarote Agents have put together a list of what they think is Lanzarote’s best beaches. What do you think of the list? Do you agree or is your list different?

Playa del Papagayo

Beyond the lunar-like plains of the Rubicón coast, you’ll find a beach paradise unlike any other—six pristine, golden sandy beaches. Among them, Playa del Papagayo is the most iconic. Shaped like a perfect half-moon, it is nestled between two volcanic cliffs, opening onto a small bay with calm, crystal-clear waters that shimmer in shades of green and blue. A favourite spot for divers, the beach also offers breathtaking views of Lobos Island and the dunes of Corralejo in Fuerteventura, visible on the horizon on a clear day.

Caleta del Congrio

Located within the Papagayo coastline, this secluded nudist-friendly cove is a true oasis of tranquillity. Sheltered by a dramatic volcanic rock wall, its soft white sand and turquoise waters create a paradise-like setting. This unspoilt spot offers an escape from civilisation, making visitors feel as if they’ve reached the edge of the world—one of the best places in Lanzarote to enjoy naturism in peace.

Playa de Famara

With its towering cliffs, the Risco de Famara looks like the spine of a mythical creature that dissolves into golden sand as it meets the Atlantic Ocean. The legendary César Manrique, who spent his childhood summers here, once said, “As a child, I used to run around Famara like a wild goat.” While not ideal for swimming, the beach is a haven for surfers and windsurfers, thanks to the strong winds that sweep its shores. However, even if you’re not into watersports, a trip to Famara is worth it just for the breathtaking scenery.

Playa Grande

Not all of Lanzarote’s beaches are wild and remote. The island also offers urban beaches, such as Playa Grande, perfect for those looking to enjoy the sun and sea in total comfort. A highlight of Puerto del Carmen, this beach is surrounded by a lively promenade lined with palm trees, restaurants, and leisure facilities. Plus, it is fully accessible, featuring amphibious chairs, buoys, and adapted bathing areas, ensuring that everyone can enjoy its charms.
