At 6pm on April 24th a statue of Kenneth Gasque, the man who brought the Ironman triathlon to Lanzarote, will be unveiled on Puerto del Carmen’s Avenida de las Playas.
The statue will be located near the Los Cocoteros apartments, close to the base of operations of each annual Ironman contest.
Cabildo Sports Councillor Juan Monzón said “There is no doubt that Kenneth represents the birth and growth of the Ironman on Lanzarote and it’s our duty to highlight his figure.”
The statue has been created by local artist Cintia Machín and will be accompanied by plaques bearing the names of the male and female winners of each Ironman contest.
