Today is Epiphany, or Three Kings Day, and is a public holiday in Spain. The holiday follows Twelfth Night, which officially ends the long Christmas season in Spain.
The Three Kings travelled the length and width of Lanzarote yesterday, in cars, on camels and in boats, and thousands of local children will have woken up this morning to eagerly open the gifts they left overnight.
Some of the parades were interrupted by rainfall, but the general good nature of the occasions was not extinguished.
It’s the last national holiday until Easter, although most council areas of Lanzarote will have Carnival Tuesday on 17th February as a municipal holiday.
