Canary Islands set new tourism record with over 15m international visitors

The Canary Islands have beaten their all-time record for international tourist arrivals for the second year running. In 2025, the islands welcomed 15.69 million foreign visitors, a 3.0% increase on 2024 figures, according to data from Frontur.

This recording-breaking figure was achieved despite a dip during December. Data from the National Institute of Statistics shows visitor numbers that month dipped by 0.1% compared to December 2024, with a total of 1,447,097 arrivals.

The Canaries have now recorded 29 consecutive months with over one million foreign tourists each month. The last time monthly arrivals fell below that threshold was in June 2023, with 947,828 visitors.

The United Kingdom and Germany remained the core source markets in December. The UK contributed 483,580 visitors, with Germany providing 264,322.

According to the Foreign Tourist Expenditure Survey, spending by international travellers in 2025 reached 24.431 billion euros, a 6.8% increase on 2024.

However, in December total tourist expenditure fell by 0.6% year-on-year to 2.228 billion euros. The average spend per tourist fell by 0.5% to €1,539, and the average length of stay decreased by 0.9% to 8.1 nights. This was partially offset by a 0.5% rise in daily spending per person, which reached €190.
