Yaiza Ayuntamiento is pressing the Canarian Government to hurry up and grant permission for cruisers to dock at Playa Blanca harbour.
Puertos Canarios, the body in charge of granting permission for cruisers to arrive, has not yet given formal permission for the port to receive cruisers.
Yaiza Mayor, Óscar Noda, said “Puertos Canarios’ first priority is to declare Playa Blanca a Schengen port, so that boutique cruise ships can finally arrive.” This will require the hiring of mooring crews, pilots and other port services.
“We want them to get their act together with boutique cruises and stop passing the buck,” added Noda.
Noda has requested a meeting with government officials to define measures and timelines. Initial expectations were that cruisers would be able to moor towards the end of last year, but there seems little chance that this will happen, at least in the short or medium term, until the necessary arrangements are made and a permit granted.
