Teguise has already begun its carnival celebrations, which will continue over the next few days. The theme for the carnival is Mexico: Day of the Dead.
This evening, the Drag Queen Gala will take place in Costa Teguise from 8.30 pm, at the carpark near the Pueblo Marinero, with wild and wonderful costumes and plenty of music and spectacle.
Tomorrow evening, the action will move inland to the old town of La Villa de Teguise, with a parade by traditional carnival groups such as Los Buches from Arrecife and, of course, the fearsome Diabletes of Teguise in their hometown.
5.30 on Saturday will see the big parade in Costa Teguise, heading up the hill from Sands Beach Apartments to the Pueblo Marinero. Los Diabletes will lead the way, followed by drummers, dancers and murgas (singing groups), including local groups such as the thunderous Batucada Villa Pipol, and the dancers from Los Cumbacheros.
The parade will be followed by a street party in the carpark of the Pueblo Marinero, from 8 pm till late.
On Sunday, a smaller parade will visit Teguise’s Sunday market at 12 midday, followed by a daytime street party in the Plaza de los Leones.
Weather conditions are currently promising, with no rain predicted for any of the evenings in question, and only moderate winds. It could be a little nippy, though, with minimum temperatures of 12 degrees possible.
