Another tourist has been rescued from Las Grietas after falling and suffering a suspected broken ankle.
Emergency services entered one of the fissures at Montaña Blanca, where a splint was applied to the victim’s ankle. He was then removed using a special stretcher. And taken to the Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital.
The incident follows at least two callouts to Las Grietas last year. In recent years, the strange canyons have become an unofficial tourist attraction after receiving widespread coverage on social media. However, there have been serious concerns about safety in the zone itself and on the road nearby.
