Arrecife Ayuntamiento has suspended the adoption of cats and dogs from its Animal Protection Centre.
The step has been taken to “avoid animals being given as holiday presents or a Christmas whim and ensure that each adoption is carried out with the necessary responsibility and commitment,” according to councillor Jacobo Lemes.
“Christmas is a special time of year, but that’s not an excuse for impulsive decisions,” said Lemes. Adoption will be possible again after three Kings Day on 6th January.
