Arrecife Ayuntamiento has reported that this Sunday, August 17th, 9,000 cruise passengers will arrive in Lanzarote’s capital.
This Sunday, August 17th, the MSC Virtuosa and Ventura will dock at the port in Arrecife, brining with them 9000 passengers on their way to the peninsula.
Arrecife Mayor, Yonathan de León, has encouraged “small businesses and the hospitality sector to plan their upcoming Sunday openings with these Sunday cruise ship stopovers in mind, which will contribute to an increase in revenue.”
According to the Ayuntamiento, “this is evidenced by the recent openings of new businesses on Calle Real, plus the upcoming inaugurations, which are being established in this area of Arrecife due to the advantages provided by cruise ship passengers, who have high spending power, which complements sales to residents and local customers.”
The Department of Commerce and Tourism, headed by Eli Merino, reports that “between August and November, 10 cruise ships will visit Arrecife and make their stops on Sundays, a schedule that is already known to Arrecife’s hoteliers and merchants through the requests for stops made by the shipping companies to the Port Authority of Las Palmas.”
Merino points out that these upcoming cruise ship visits are already known, allowing small businesses and the hospitality sector to plan ahead for Sunday openings, balancing workers’ rest and family life with the city’s busiest shopping days.
Arrecife Ayuntamiento also points out that the MSC shipping company, whose large cruise ship Virtuosa will dock this Sunday, already has various cruises on sale for 2025, 2026, and 2027, with Arrecife as their home port. The first of these cruises will take place next December.
