Emergency Services work through the night as rain batters Playa Blanca

The areas of Montaña Roja and Faro Pechiguera were particularly hard hit, with the sudden deluge leading to flooding of streets and homes, as well as damage to stone walls and pavements, among other incidents.

Emergency services across Yaiza have been working around the clock, deploying resources to carry out water removal and cleanup tasks. The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has confirmed that the damage is now being assessed and quantified so that a claim can be filed with the Insurance Compensation Consortium to support the individuals and families affected.

From the very outset, professionals, volunteers, residents, municipal staff and local businesses were on the scene addressing the needs arising from the emergency. Among those, the mayor noted the involvement of Club Lanzarote, the developer behind the Montaña Roja zoning plan. Mayor Noda highlighted “the coordinated efforts of all individuals and organisations and the palpable solidarity of our community.”

Óscar Noda also expressed his gratitude for “the support of the mayors of Lanzarote, who have been closely monitoring the situation, as well as the call from the president of the Lanzarote Cabildo and the councillors of his governing group; they all conveyed to me their willingness to help, a gesture for which I also publicly thank them on behalf of the Yaiza.”
