Lanzarote Airport amongst the least punctual in Spain

A new report from AirHelp has revealed that of the 24 million passengers in Spain in the first quarter of 2025, approximately 4.5 million experienced flight delays or cancellations. Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife are amongst the worst.

A new report from AirHelp, the technology company that improves the passenger experience during the potential disruption of a flight, has revealed new data on the state of air traffic in Spain and the performance of Spanish airports.

During the first three months of 2025, more than 24 million passengers took a flight from an airport in Spain. According to the data provided by the passenger rights company, approximately 82% of the journeys were made on schedule. However, around 4.5 million people had their flight interrupted and, although in most cases they were minor delays that do not entail financial compensation, 339,700 people were able to receive compensation for a delay of more than 3 hours, cancellation of their flight or missed connection caused by the delay of a previous flight.

DATA BY AIRPORTS AND AIRLINES

According to AirHelp, Iberia Express is once again the most punctual airline in the first quarter of the year. In the first 3 months of 2025, approximately 3,750 flights operated by the low-cost carrier departed from Spanish airports, carrying more than half a million travellers to their destinations. Of these, less than 6.5% were delayed in any way.

By airports – taking into account those with more than 200 scheduled flights per month – passengers departing from Menorca were the most fortunate. Of the more than 100,000 passengers who took a flight from Menorca, 94.3% of them departed on time. Following the Balearic airport, Melilla and Granada-Jaén airports were the second and third best airports in the first quarter of the year, with a punctuality rate of 92.3% and 90.4%, respectively.

On the other hand, the Canary Islands airports were not as lucky: Tenerife Sur, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria were the airports with the worst data in this first part of the year, with punctuality percentages of 72.7%, 73.6% and 73.7%, respectively.
