Lanzarote’s weekend markets cancelled as red temperature alert declared for Sunday

The Saturday market at Haría and the big Sunday market at Teguise have been suspended due to this weekend’s heatwave.

Any other activities taking place between the hours of 11 am and 7 pm are likely to affected, especially on Sunday, when a red alert indicating “high risk” has been declared by Spain’s weather agency AEMET.

A red alert recommends that citizens take action against the heat, cancelling outdoor activities, making sure that vulnerable people such as children, the elderly, pregnant women, the obese and those with various medical conditions are cared for.

The highest temperatures are forecast for inland areas, meaning that the island’s beaches are likely to be crowded this weekend.

Stay hydrated, keep out of the sun and remember that this not a good weekend to go hiking up cliffs or volcanoes.
