On Tuesday this week, workers and supermarket staff were adding the finishing touches to the exterior of the supermarket.

The opening of LIDL Playa Blanca marks the German chain’s fifth shop on the island, the last being opening this year in Argana. In total, LIDL had 37 shops in the Canary Islands.

The new shop in Playa Blanca will have an area of 1,400 m² and 120 parking spaces, on a plot of more than 8,000 m². Additionally, the shop will employ 40 staff and will be open Monday – Sunday from 8:30am until 10pm.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PLAYA BLANCA?

Aldi is the next new supermarket to open in Playa Blanca, at the other entrance to the resort coming down from the Femes road. It is expected to open in January 2025 and construction is well underway.

The supermarket will have 1,200 square metres of sales space, with parking for 102 vehicles.

In addition to Lidl and Aldi, Yaiza’s mayor confirmed to us in an interview this year that Spanish chain “Mercadona” is also showing interest in opening in the sunny southern resort

In the interview, the mayor stated, “We also have Mercadona showing a lot of interest, possibly in a site near the Marina Rubicón.”.
