Medcruise correction

Puertas Canarias has denied that the Canary Islands have de-registered with Medcruise, the association of Mediterranean cruise operators.

The public body made the announcement after Yaiza Mayor Óscar Noda had complained about a news report that claimed that the Canaries had requested to be removed from Medcruise’s schedules, implying that there would be no cruise ships arriving at Playa Blanca.

“This information is false, and there has been no deregistering from Medcruise,” said the ports council. The website that printed the report, puentedemando.com, has since corrected the news.

Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort, who was criticised by Noda for not looking out for Playa Blanca’s interests, responded angrily, lamenting “the irresponsibility of public representatives who put political interests before truth, and use fake news to fool voters.”
