More scaremongering about Lanzarote by British media outlets

British media outlets have this week published false, scaremongering headlines such as “Tenerife and Lanzarote placed on warning list for UK tourists”.

Coming at a time of insecurity relating to the war in Iran and increasing fuel prices, the headlines appear to be designed to sow fear and doubt among British tourists.

But there is no warning. The articles refer to a four-month-old story about Fodor’s Travel placing the islands on their “No List” of destinations that “conscientious tourists” should avoid for environmental reasons. Last November, Fodors described the list as “a gentle but pointed nudge to ease up on a spot for now–not forever”, and stress that it is not a boycott list. It is certainly not a warning.

The misleading headlines have appeared in the Mirror, The Express and several local titles owned by Reach plc, such as the Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Live and the Irish Mirror. It’s not the first time that Reach titles have printed inaccurate, scaremongering content relating to the Canary Islands.

Not only are the headlines false, the articles are boring and outdated. Scroll on and don’t click.
