The National Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in Arrecife as the alleged perpetrator of a stabbing during a domestic violence incident.
The incident occurred on 2nd January. According to police reports, the arrested individual lives with his mother and her partner in a rented room in a property in the capital.
The investigation revealed that the altercation began when the mother informed her partner she was ending their relationship.
The detainee stated in his testimony that he took a knife from the room intending to defend his mother after her partner reacted violently, threatening and lunging at her. The son intervened at this point, stabbing the man in the shoulder.
Several witnesses and residents from an adjoining room in the house gave statements to police. They reported hearing the woman’s cries for help and subsequently assisted the injured man, who was bleeding profusely.
As a result of the investigation, the young man was arrested.
Following the completion of police proceedings, the detainee was brought before the competent judicial authority. The court has issued a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching or communicating with the victim.
