New ALDI supermarket opens in Playa Blanca

ALDI has opened its first ever supermarket in Playa Blanca, which is now the third supermarket on Lanzarote.

ALDI maintains its commitment to expansion in the Canary Islands with the supermarket chain’s first opening in the archipelago of 2025, bringing its total number of shops in the Canary Islands to 16. The company plans to open four new supermarkets in the Canary Islands this year, of the nearly 40 planned for the whole of Spain. The Canaries is a strategic area for ALDI, where it has strengthened its position since its arrival in 2022.

“Since we arrived in the Canary Islands more than two years ago, our aim has always been to offer savings opportunities to more and more Canarian households,” said José Luis Redondo, ALDI’s Head of Expansion, during the opening ceremony. “One of the keys to our low prices are our trusted relationships with more than 50 local suppliers, which is why 20% of our products come from the Canary Islands,” added Redondo.

The inauguration of the new ALDI in Playa Blanca was attended by David Mille Pomposo, the Canarian Government’s Director General of Trade and Consumer Affairs, and Cinthia Aroa Revelo Betancort, Lanzarote Cabildo’s Councillor for Youth, Open Government, Trade, Consumer Affairs, Crafts and Animal Welfare. “ALDI has become a very important operator in our market, with a significant degree of acceptance by both consumers and producers, due to its commitment to local produce,” said Mille.

The event was also attended by Yaiza Mayor, Óscar Noda. Noda thanked “the confidence placed in Yaiza, as the main beneficiaries are the residents of the municipality and the entire island of Lanzarote, because they will have a cheaper shopping basket and a new alternative to purchase quality products. The council is aware that resolving issues quickly is in the interest of the entire population.”.

Quality Products At Low Prices

The ALDI supermarket in Yaiza-Playa Blanca is open to the public from Monday to Sunday from 8:30am until 10pm. Here, consumers will find a wide range of quality products at low prices, with a focus on own brands – nearly 9 out of 10 products are own brands – and on local and national origin.

20% of ALDI’s range in the Canary Islands comes from more than 50 suppliers in the archipelago, who supply the supermarket chain with more than 360 locally grown products. To mark the new opening, ALDI will be offering exclusive offers and holding weekly and fortnightly promotions to make it easier to save on shopping baskets.
