Tías Ayuntamiento has prohibited entry to Las Grietas, the natural canyons on Montaña Blanca that have become an unofficial tourist attraction after exposure on social media.
The council explain that they are carrying out a topographical survey of the area and “ensuring the safety of visitors”. A sign erected at the site prohibits entry to the general public or hikers, and warns of slippery surfaces, landslides and road accidents.
Concerns about Las Grietas have increased after chaotic parking on the LZ-35 road near the site, accidents involving tourists stumbling and reports of people climbing on the fragile rock formations.
