Thousands attend Arrecife carnival parade

The rain held off in Arrecife last night, allowing the island’s first and biggest carnival procession to go ahead in good conditions.

Thousands of carnival-goers sand spectators attended the parade, which was led by traditional groups such as Los Buches and the fearsome Diabletes. These were followed by the comparsas (dancing groups), murgas (singing groups) and the batucadas (drummers).

At the rear of the procession came 25 floats, pumping out music and followed by dancers. The winner of the float competition was announced as “Starry-Eyed in the Agramar Jungle”, followed by Aladdin´ and ´Mad Max´´.

Today will see San Bartolomé hold its parade, which will begin at 12 noon from Calle Constitución and head to the Parque Felix Rodríguez de la Fuente.
