Two remanded in Arrecife

Nine people appeared before magistrates in Arrecife yesterday following the arrest of Irish criminal Gerry Hutch and several other suspects.

Two of the nine people arrested on Lanzarote are being held in prison without bail. Another seven have been released on conditional bail.  The Canarian Supreme Court has not specified which of the suspects was imprisoned. It is understood that the detainees include a relative of Hutch’s and a lawyer.

Guardia Civíl sources state that the investigation relates to “movements of large sums of money and the purchase of a number of properties in Spain.” Spanish sources also claim the charges relate to “drugs and human trafficking”, while Irish Guarda sources have stated that the investigation concerns money laundering.
