UD Lanzarote can hold their heads high despite being knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Real Racing Club de Santander.
Lanzarote took the visitors, who are currently leading Spain’s second division, right to the wire in a thrilling game played in front of more than 1,200 spectators at the Municipal Pancho Bermúdez in Tías.
Racing took the lead in the 32nd minute and, although Lanzarote snatched a goal back before half-time, the visitors were leading 4-1 with quarter of an hour of the match remaining. However, two goals in two minutes by Ale Fuentes meant a nail-biting finish.
Sadly, Lanzarote couldn’t get that all important equaliser and are now eliminated from Spain’s main cup tournament. However, they can be more than proud of the way they took on one of Spain’s most historic clubs.
